A Kickstarter page has been set up to help fund the release of a new documentary on Detroit techno
Helmed by filmmakers Jennifer Washington and Kristian Hill, the documentary, entitled God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines: the Story of Detroit Techno, will spotlight the history of the genre, from its roots within the African American community to “how the business of music betrayed them”. The project will document the lives of some of techno’s most influential figures, including Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson.
The campaign’s goal is £23,103, and at the time of writing (24 October), 26 backers have pledged £1,549. The deadline for the project to reach its goal is 21 November, and pledge rewards range from mixtape downloads to limited edition t-shirts and posters signed by the cast.
