Berlin nightclubs are providing shelter to the city's homeless

Two Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg institutions have announced that they’ll be offering emergency accommodation for one night a week throughout January and February

According to the German newspaper Der Tagesspiel, Bi Nuu will create space for up to 15 women, while Astra Kulturhaus,  will house up to 25 men.

The clubs are part of the Kältehilfe initiative that sees on average 920 emergency sleeping spaces open up across the German capital, where temperatures throughout the winter months frequently drop below freezing.

Sara Lühmann, press spokeswoman for the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, says that it’s “great when clubs make such offers and take on social responsibility”.

“We are happy about every additional offer to further expand the number of cold weather places,” she added.
