Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition returns for 2019 edition

Glastonbury Festival

Glastonbury has announced the return of its annual competition.

The UK festival has launched its Emerging Talent 2019 Competition, which will give new acts the chance to compete for a slot on its main stage. The free-to-enter competition is on the lookout for talent from all musical genres. Supported by PRS Music and PRS Foundation, winners will be awarded £5,000 from the two organisations, while runner-ups will receive £2,500.

The competition will be launched on 28 January at 9am (GMT). Acts will have one week to enter the competition, which will close on 4 February at 5pm (GMT).

“After our year off, we can’t wait to hear the latest crop of undiscovered music that’s out there,” said Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis. “New music is hugely important to what this festival is about, and the Emerging Talent Competition has helped us to unearth so many incredible artists from across the genres.”

In the past, the competition has featured finalists such as rapper Flohio, who’s gone on to collaborate with Modeselektor and star in a Nike x Carhartt WIP campaign. Last year, Crack Magazine cited her as one of 25 artists shaping the future of music.

Glastonbury took a break in 2018, but is set to return on 26-30 June to Somerset’s Worthy Farm. So far, Kylie Minogue has been confirmed for the legends slot, while Stormzy will head up the Pyramid Stage and Janelle Monáe will headline the West Holts Stage.
