Sleater-Kinney’s new album to be produced by St Vincent

The news broke after the band and Annie Clark posted about the collaboration on Twitter.

Sleater-Kinney are due to release a 2019 follow-up to their 2015 reunion album No Cities to Love. Whilst they have yet to reveal a title, St Vincent has been confirmed as a producer.

The project was announced by both the band and producer via posts on their respective Twitter and Facebook feeds, complete with posed photos of the four musicians in a recording studio.

Speaking to American news outlet NPR about the forthcoming release, guitarist and vocalist Carrie Brownstein said, “We always planned on getting back in the studio — it was just a matter of when. If there is an overarching principle to this album, it’s that the tools on which we were relying proved inadequate. So we sought new ones, both metaphorically and literally.”

The circumstances bringing St Vincent and Sleater-Kinney together for this collaboration have not yet been elaborated upon. However, St Vincent has appeared on Brownstein’s comedy series Portlandia and previously covered the Sleater-Kinney track Modern Girl.
