The actor will take over Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour slot, Sundays, 2-4pm, from 3 March until summer 2019.

Effective from 3 March, radio host and Elbow frontman Guy Garvey, will take a break from presenting on Radio 6 Music to focus on recording a forthcoming music project. In his absence, Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour, which runs from 2-4pm on Sundays, will be taken over by Irish actor Cillian Murphy.

Known for his turn in Bafta award-winning drama Peaky Blinders and in cinematic roles in Dunkirk, Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy, Murphy will stand in for Garvey until “summer 2019”. Speaking about his new role in a press release, the actor said: “As a music lover, mixtape obsessive and long-time 6 Music fan I couldn’t be more chuffed to be asked to sit in for Guy on his hiatus. His show has been a constant companion for me and my family on Sunday afternoons for many years now, and it will be an honour to pick the tunes in that slot for a while.”

This will not be Murphy’s first time gracing the airwaves, as since 2013 he has presented several one-off shows on BBC Radio 6 Music including The Sound of Cinema, Cillian Murphy’s 6 Music Playlist in 2016, two weeks standing in for Iggy Pop in 2018, and a special 2018 Christmas show.
