Michael Eavis unveils plans to add 60-metre pier to Glastonbury Festival

Glastonbury founder, Michael Eavis, has revealed his plans for a 60-metre pier installation on the festival site at Worthy Farm.

Eavis detailed that the new work, aptly titled Glastonbury-on-sea, will resemble an “enormous” Victorian-style pier. The work will be built by longtime collaborator Joe Rush. The news was announced at the opening of Rush’s new solo show Stories from the Wasteland, at London’s Vinegar Yard this weekend.

Rush’s sculptures have been displayed at Glastonbury since 1985, initially with his work Skull Bus. His other large-scale Glastonbury commissions have included Carhenge (1987) and the Aladdin Sane Bowie tribute at the Pyramid stage (2016).

The Pyramid Stage’s headline slots were recently filled by The Killers and The Cure, with Kylie Minogue recently announced for the Legends show. Glastonbury returns to Worthy Farm this summer, on 26-30 June.
