AS Roma bans players from taking photos with Drake

Italian football club Roma have banned their players from posing with the Champagne Papi for photos.

Associazione Sportiva Roma, generally known as Roma, have told their players not to take photos with the Canadian rapper, for fear that the Drake Curse strikes again. They tweeted the rule was in place “until the end of the season”.

Roma’s tweet came after Drake posed with football player Layvin Kurzawa, whose team Paris Saint-Germain went on to lose 5-1 to Lille after the photo was taken.

There’s been much speculation that Drake is the catalyst for bad luck at football games, as there’s a history of players repeatedly losing their matches after appearing in photos with the artist. Paul Pogba and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang join Kurzawa as footballers who have experienced athletic pitfalls after connecting with Drizzy.

Aside from football, the Drake Curse has affected players of all sports. In October last year, MMA star Conor McGregor was confident he would beat Russian opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Irish fighter brought Drake on stage during his weigh-ins, and the Canadian star was seen with the Irish flag wrapped around his shoulders in support. McGregor, ultimately, lost the fight via submission in the fourth round.

In 2015, Serena Williams was on a mission to win all four tennis Grand Slams in a calendar year. Her plans were scuppered by opponent Roberta Vinci, who, despite being a 300-1 underdog beat Williams. BBC News reported, “This was the year Drake was spotted watching a lot of her games.”

Drake has also been meeting with athletes and celebrities on his Assassination Vacation tour across Europe and the UK.
