House pioneer Sleezy D has died

Sleezy D, otherwise known as Derrick Harris, has passed away from kidney failure.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise money for his funeral. According to the campaign, Harris had no insurance. Currently (14 June), the campaign has reached $1,178 of its $20,000 target.

Harris is best known for his 1986 track I’ve Lost Control, co-produced with Marshall Jefferson. The hit is widely cited as the first acid house track to be released on vinyl. Little is known about Harris, and in a 2013 interview with The QuietusJefferson said, “Sleezy is an actual person. If you ever met him, you’d never forget him.”

“Everybody who came to town… Sleazy would take them round,” he added. “Everybody loved Sleazy.”
