Dev Hynes is a French aristocrat in new Blood Orange video Benzo

Dev Hynes dons a rococo wig and plays the cello in a new video for Benzo.

Blood Orange has shared a new video for Benzo, the first single from his new Angel’s Pulse mixtape. The self-directed video is set in a French royal court, and features Dev Hynes alongside frequent collaborator Ian Isiah, as French aristocrats complete with powder and wig. In the decorative accompaniment to the new track, a coiffured Hynes plays the cello for Isiah and the court. Watch the video in the player above.

The new mixtape, titled Angel’s Pulse, is “somewhat of an epilogue” to 2018’s Negro Swan according to Hynes, and was released last Friday (12 July) via Domino. Upon its release, Hynes made a statement introducing the record: “My new record is called Angel’s Pulse & I performed, produced, and mixed the entire thing myself. I’m calling it a mixtape. I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street, or no one. Usually this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I’ve made before. This time… I decided to release it.”

Angel’s Pulse is out now and features Isiah on other tracks including Birmingham and Berlin. It also features collaborations with Arca, Kelsey Lu and Tyler, the Creator.
