IDLES, slowthai and Little Simz shortlised for 2019 Mercury Prize

The shortlist for the 2019 Mercury Prize has been announced. Previous Crack cover stars IDLES, slowthai, Dave and Little Simz are all up for the prize, which awards the best British album of the year. NAO, jazz group SEED Ensemble, Black Midi, Fontaines DC, Anna Calvi, Cate Le Bon, Foals and The 1975 have also been nominated.

The prize is awarded by a group of judges from across the music industry and related media with the likes of Stormzy, Annie Mac, Jorja Smith and Gaz Coombes sat on the panel, which this year is chaired by Jeff Smith, the head of music at BBC 6 Music and Radio 2.

The winner of the Mercury Prize will be announced at a live awards show on 19 September at the Eventim Apollo in London.
