Lana is calling the track Looking For America.

Lana Del Rey has shared a preview of a new song written in response to the recent string of mass shootings in the US. “I’m going to call it Looking for America,” she says in an Instagram post on Monday (5 August). “I know I’m not a politician and I’m not trying to be so excuse me for having an opinion — but in light of all of the mass shootings and the back to back shootings in the last couple of days which really affected me on a cellular level I just wanted to post this video that our engineer Laura took 20 minutes ago,” the caption states. “I hope you like it.”

The song is a collaboration with Jack Antonoff, who can be seen playing the guitar in the video. Watch the recording session for the new song here.

In the post, Lana describes returning from Montecito, California and asking Antonoff to come to the studio to record the song, which she had written in response to recent mass shootings. There were mass shootings at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas on Saturday (3 August) and at a popular nightlife district in Dayton, Ohio during the early hours of Sunday (4 August).

Last night Lana Del Rey also shared another new song, a cover of Donovan’s 1966 song Season of the Witch, which appears in the trailer for a new horror film from director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro called, Stories to Tell in the Dark. The film arrives in US theaters on 9 August and in UK cinemas on 23 August.

Last week she revealed the artwork and release date for her upcoming album. Norman Fucking Rockwell arrives on 30 August; Del Rey will play a huge UK tour in 2020.
