Black Smoker Records to present Black Opera theatre performances in Tokyo

Black Opera

Tokyo-based label and art collective Black Smoker Records is set to bring their art performance theatre, Black Opera, to the Goethe-Institut Tokyo from 14-17 November.

The upcoming series is set to be the second edition of Black Opera. With bolder production than last year and a line-up intersecting the visual arts with music and dance performances, Black Opera promises to be a rare opportunity to experience works from some of the most cutting-edge talent from Tokyo’s underground scene.

Opening parties will be held on 14-15 November. These will consist of talks and documentary screenings alongside a collaborative event with Kyoto-based festival Mazeum and Polish event Unsound. As part of an artist exchange initiative between the two festivals, Warsaw arts group BNNT will perform in Japan for the first time on the second night.

Nibuiro no Kabe, which translates to The Dark Grey Wall will be the main performance of the Black Opera schedule. Inspired by the 30 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the performance will have three showings across 16-17 November.
