Spotify launches personalised playlists for pets

Pets can now have their own Spotify playlists too.

Following consultations with animal experts, Spotify has launched a selection of “algorithmically curated” playlists for cats, dogs, fish, birds and iguanas. To generate a playlist, users need to access the feature and click on the appropriate pet, before adding details about the pet’s personality – whether they are energetic, curious, relaxed or friendly – as well as their name. Using this information, along with the account user’s personal music tastes, Spotify then compiles a collection of tracks.

The team behind Pets.By.Spotify said: “While music for pets isn’t an exact science, we consulted with experts in the pet industry for the best approximation for what might work best for our featured animals.

“Incidentally, we only use the information you provide us to create your Pet Playlist. The information is not stored and is not used for any other purpose.”

Alongside this, Spotify has launched a new podcast for dogs, entitled My Dog’s Favourite Podcast. Designed to comfort dogs when home alone, each episode lasts five hours and has been voiced by British actors Ralph Ineson (Game of Thrones) and Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife).
