Secretsundaze announces green initiative Dance 2 Sustain

London institution Secretsundaze has announced its new sustainability initiative.

Dance 2 Sustain aims to drastically reduce waste and carbon emissions from their events. One major change implemented is replacing the estimated 80,000+ singe-use plastic cups that were used at their parties last year with paper alternatives, as well as providing custom made bins for their correct disposal and recycling.

Where possible, planes will be replaced by trains, whilst emissions resulting from artists flying to the event will be offset through Clean Scene. Any ground transport will be conducted by Green Tomato Cars, a green taxi service which uses only low and zero emission vehicles.

As food is a major contributor to greenhouse emissions, red meat will be banned from all Secretsundaze events, and all produce will be ethically and locally sourced. Moreover, reusable and biodegradable products will be favoured at all future events.

A £1 Green Tax is also set to be introduced, aiming to create a sense of wider responsibility and cooperation in its attendees. Remaining funds raised will be donated to Possible, an organisation inspiring climate action.

“It’s become impossible not to stand up and take action against this urgent climate crisis. Working across various venues comes with its own set of challenges, but hopefully in the near future some of the methods we’re introducing will be standard across the industry”, said Secretsundaze co-founder James Priestley.

“Whilst Dance 2 Sustain will ensure our activity is less environmentally damaging, we’re more hopeful that the message will help inspire individuals and other businesses to make the changes they can to alleviate the devastating problems the planet faces.” he added.

This year, Secretsundaze will debut a series of daytime parties across London’s top venues, in addition to Off-Week Festival in Barcelona. Its Day & Night Double Venue Opening Party will also be hosted for the first time at The Pickle Factory and Oval Space’s main space on 2 May,
