P-Orridge had been battling Leukemia since 2017.
Genesis Breyer P-Orridge has died aged 70. The Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV founder was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2017. The news comes via a statement from P-Orridge’s daughters Genesse and Caresse via the Facebook page of Dais Records cofounder Ryan Martin.
P-Orridge founded Throbbing Gristle alongside Cosey Fanni Tutti, Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson and Chris Carter in 1975. The group was born out of COUM Transmissions, a performance art collective founded by P-Orridge of which Fanni Tutti was also a member. In 1981 P-Orridge formed Psychic TV with Scottish musician Alex Fergusson. In her 2017 autobiography Art Sex Music, Fanni Tutti accused P-Orridge of emotional and physical abuse.
Tributes to P-Orridge have come in from musicians including Machinedrum, Zola Jesus and Cold Cave.
RIP Genesis P Orridge. A true innovator and experimental music pioneer.
