Kendrick Lamar launches company with director Dave Free, shares short film

Kendrick Lamar has shared a new short film written and directed by Dave Free starring Jorja Smith and featuring musical contributions from Florence Welch and Kamasi Washington.

The film is hosted on a mysterious online platform called pg-Lang. Kendrick’s changed his bio on socials to list himself as founder of the company.

The website has a link-out to the full credits for the film and a shop selling pgLang merchandise. According to a press release, “Created by Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free, this is a new multi-lingual, at service company. It is not a “record label”, a “movie studio”, or a “publishing house.” This is something new.”

TDE rapper Baby Keem stars in the film, he’s been announced as “artist one partnering with pgLang.” “Astronaut ideas. That is what I call the shit that I know I want but that stand alone. You know?” Keem said in a press release, “Like, not everything has to ‘make sense’ to me in a rational way. This is how my mind stays fresh, by letting myself have my astronaut ideas and developing them even though it might confuse anyone else.”

The film is described as “a visual mission statement of what drives their purpose.”
