The Art Fund has raised over £3.5 million to keep the cottage open to the public.

A campaign to save the former home of filmmaker Derek Jarman has been successful. The Art Fund has been campaigning to raise money in order to buy Prospect Cottage, and with it Jarman’s personal archive. Yesterday evening (31 March), the fund announced that the campaign had reached its goal, raising over £3.5 million, which will allow it to purchase the property and fund a permanent scheme to keep it open to the public.

The likes of Tilda Swinton, Jeremy Deller, Wolfgang Tillmans and many others from across the arts leant their support to the campaign, donating funds as well as prints and works of art to the cause. Creative Folkstone will oversee the upkeep of Prospect Cottage, maintaining the gardens and opening the cottage itself to the public for the first time with a series of guided visits.
