Nicolas Jaar-scored film Ema launching for free on MUBI today

Ema, a film by Chilean director Pablo Larraín (Jackie, Neruda) and scored by former Crack Magazine cover star Nicolas Jaar will be available on streaming service MUBI for free this Friday (1 May).

To celebrate the release, MUBI are making the film available free of charge for 24 hours on 1 May. After this virtual preview, Ema will run on MUBI for 30 days in the UK and Ireland.

The film is set in modern-day Chile and tells the story of Ema, played by rising actor Mariana Di Girolamo, a young dancer in a reggaeton dance troupe in a toxic marriage with an older choreographer played by Gael García Bernal.

Jaar, whose father is the Chilean artist and architect Alfredo Jaar, provides the original score which takes the reggaeton theme into electrifying directions and fully captures the intensity of the narrative.

Jaar’s OST for Ema was never released which means watching the film is the only way you’ll be able to hear his score. The news follows the release of Cenizas, Jaar’s follow-up to 2016’s Sirens which came out on his Other People imprint at the end of March. In February, Jaar released the album 2017 – 2019 under his Against All Logic alias. The tracklist features collaborations with FKA twigs and Lydia Lunch.
