Angel Olsen announces new album Whole New Mess, shares lead single

Angel Olsen’s new album arrives next month.

Angel Olsen has announced her new album Whole New Mess. Due for release via Jagjaguwar on 28 August, the record will be the first since her 2012 debut to feature Olsen performing solo, unaccompanied by a band or other musicians.

Whole New Mess follows Olsen’s 2019 album All Mirrors and features alternative versions of some of the tracks on that record, under different names and without the orchestral accompaniments.

Speaking about the album, Olsen said “I had gone through this breakup, but it was so much bigger than that—I’d lost friendships, too. When you get out of a relationship, you have to examine who you are or were in all the relationships. I wanted to record when I was still processing these feelings. These are the personal takes, encapsulated in a moment.”
