Nilüfer Yanya debuts new song, Day 7, in Tiny Desk concert

Nilüfer Yanya headed up the latest episode of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series.

The singer-songwriter performed Miss Universe, Paralyzed and debuted the new track Day 7. The set closed with the song Heavyweight Champion of the Year. After the first performance, she paused to say, “One of the things that’s been on my mind a lot is the racism and violence and injustice going on towards Black people and people of colour, not only in America but here in the U.K. and all over the world.”

“As a person of mixed heritage this issue is something close to my heart.” Yanya was born to a Turkish father and her mother is of Irish and Barbadian heritage.

The artist’s debut album, Miss Universe, was released last year. Watch her Tiny Desk concert via the player above, and check out her feature on her partnership with sister Molly Daniel.
