John Frusciante is releasing a jungle and hardcore album

John Frusciante

The Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist has announced a new solo album.

John Frusciante has announced an instrumental electronic LP, inspired by UK breakbeat hardcore and jungle. Dedicated to his cat, the album is called Maya and it’s slated for release on 23 October via Aaron Funk’s Timesig label. Accompanying the announcement is the album’s lead single Amethblowl. Listen below.

On the LP, Frusciante said, “I don’t have that interest in singing or writing lyrics like I used to. The natural thing when I’m by myself now, is to just make music like the stuff being released this year. I really love the back and forth with machines and the computer.”

The guitarist’s formative rave experiences began with drum’n’bass nights in LA. In 2003, he developed an interest in Venetian Snares’ music after attending the Autechre-curated ATP.
