#WeMakeEvents campaign urges UK government to provide support for events industry

The #WeMakeEvents campaign has launched its ‘Red Alert – Stand as One’ phase today (30 September).

#WeMakeEvents is campaigning for government support for the events and music industry in the UK. On its website, the campaign has called for a government-backed insurance scheme to ensure event organisers and attendees can recover costs in the face of Covid-related cancellations; proactive testing for event attendees, a three-year extension to the reduced cultural VAT rate on tickets, grants, loans and a support scheme.

Furthermore, #WeMakeEvents is calling for collective action. You can help support the campaign by writing to your MP, and sharing your own videos or images to social media using the #WeMakeEvents tag. A toolkit with social media assets is available to use.

Festivals, artists and venues across the sector have backed the campaign online. Glastonbury has posted the statement: “The live events sector is in crisis. Today, we join with many others to call on the government to provide urgent support to protect an industry which means so much to so many, and provides billions to the economy.”
