Burna Boy addresses #EndSARS movement in BET Hip Hop Awards performance

The former Crack Magazine cover star teamed up with Chris Martin to perform Monsters You Made last night (27 October).

Burna Boy called for an end to police brutality in his BET Hip Hop Awards performance yesterday. During the performance, Coldplay’s Chris Martin appeared on a TV screen, and Burna’s group of singers and musicians wore t-shirts with the slogan #StopPoliceBrutality.

The Nigerian superstar paid tribute to those who lost their lives at last week’s Lekki Toll Gate protests, and those whose deaths are still being questioned with suspected links to Nigeria’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. “This is for Tiamiyu Kazeem, this is for Kolade Johnson, this is for everyone that has lost their lives at the hands of SARS and all kinds of police brutality,” Burna said. “End police brutality now and end profiling.” Watch the performance via the player above.

Burna has been vocal about his support for #EndSARS protestors online. Last week, he tweeted, “May the heavens open and celebrate all Martyrs and Fallen Heroes who Died today and all who have died for this Movement from the beginning. You are our Heroes and we will not let your death be in vain.” [sic]
