Brand E is taken from his forthcoming album Maya, which Frusciante said was inspired by Aphex Twin and Autechre. Slated for release on 23 October via Venetian Snare’s Timesig label, the album is dedicated to the musician’s cat.

On the album, Frusciante said in RA’s Exchange podcast, “I tried to limit myself to a few machines per track. Like Suburban Base, a lot of those people had a sampler, a mixer or whatever or maybe one synth. It was a lot for someone back then to have one effects unit, one for reverb or echo. And I find I like the sound of that – when people are struggling to make the most out of a few machines.”

He added, “A lot of my friends consider it to be jungle but other friends consider it to be IDM.”
