The LA-based artist collaborated with Grimes and released music on labels such as Mau5trap.
DJ and producer i_o, aka Garrett Lockhart, passed away on Monday (23 November). He was 30. His cause of death is undisclosed.
The news was confirmed in a statement posted to Lockhart’s social media accounts. A post reads: “This extremely talented spirit taught us that even if nothing matters, you can still lead with love. Garrett’s truth and soul lives on through the music he shared.”

Over the course of his career Lockhart released on a string of labels such as Mau5trap and Anjunabeats. He also collaborated with Grimes on her Miss Anthropocene album single Violence.
In a statement Mau5trap said, “We here at Mau5trap have received news of the loss of one of our own in the Mau5trap family, i_o. We are mourning the passing of this great friend who had a musical talent unlike any other and to say we will miss him is an understatement.”

Earlier this year, Lockhart signed to Armin van Buuren’s label Armada and launched his own imprint, Label 444. Last week he dropped a remix of Ian Van Dahl’s trance classic Castles in the Sky.
