Now, Grimes has dropped an entire album in the character Lizzy Wizzy, the cyborg popstar she voices in the game. This story is dedicated to all those cyberpunks who fight against injustice and corruption every day of their lives! (DJ Mix) is a compilation album by “Grimes and friends” and features music by Grimes as well as friends and collaborators.
Its title is a reference to Snatcher, another cyberpunk video game which was written and designed by legendary video game designer Hideo Kojima.
Sound-wise, Grimes showcases her wide-ranging taste as she zooms through electro, hip-hop, indie pop, techno, punk and more. It’s an approach that expertly mirrors Cyberpunk 2077’s soundtrack.
Expect music from Diplo, Chris Lake, Solardo and Grimes herself, plus mash-ups of i_o and T.A.T.U, Kölsch, Rihanna and Ariana Grande and more. And if you’ve ever wondered “what a Kendrick Lamar verse sounds like on top of the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop”, as stated on the album notes, then now’s your chance.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Grimes detailed the record is only available on Apple Music for now as they “generously cleared the samples.” You can also check it out below.
