Four Tet and Madlib collaborate on new track Hopprock

Four Tet and Madlib have shared their latest collaboration.

Following on from the single Road of the Lonely Ones, which came out last month, Four Tet and Madlib have shared the new track Hopprock today (4 January). The single is taken from their upcoming joint LP Sound Ancestors, which is set to land later this month. Listen to Hopprock via the player above.

Sound Ancestors has been in the works for “a couple of years”. Four Tet has previously said, “[Madlib] is always making loads of music in all sorts of styles and I was listening to some of his new beats and studio sessions when I had the idea that it would be great to hear some of these ideas made into a Madlib solo album.”

On their process, he added, “We decided to work on this together with him sending me tracks, loops, ideas and experiments that I would arrange, edit, manipulate and combine.”

Four Tet recently released the two LPs Parallel and 871 on Christmas Day. Madlib’s last full-length project was his 2019 LP Bandana with Freddie Gibbs.
