Charli XCX pays tribute to SOPHIE

Charli XCX has posted a moving tribute to her late friend and frequent collaborator SOPHIE.

In the new post Charli writes: “It’s really hard for me to sum up the special connection I felt with such an amazing person who completely changed my life. There are so many memories, so many small details, so many different views and incredible feelings and stories. It’s impossible to summarise the journey I went on with Sophie.”

“She taught me so much about myself without even realising. I wish I had told her more how special she was, not just her music, but her as a person. I love you and I will never forget you Sophie.”

The pair worked together on releases such as Vroom Vroom, Charli’s 2016 EP. Back in 2018 SOPHIE discussed her work with Charli in her Crack Magazine cover story

“We work so fast together,” she told us. “When I’ve been in the studio with Charli it’s so powerful, what she does and the way she feels music… it’s just so aggressive and raw. And I think I can try and match her as a producer as well. We’ll do three or four songs in a few hours and we’ll be like, ‘next one, next one…’ It’s so invigorating.”

SOPHIE’s tragic passing has sent shockwaves through the music industry, with artists from electronic music, pop, rap and more paying respect to the groundbreaking Glasgow-born producer. The artist passed away on 30 January in Athens, where SOPHIE had been living. SOPHIE had “climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell”.
