Robert Del Naja “livid” over lack of environmental action from the music industry

Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack has spoken to a select committee about environmental issues relating to music festivals.

As reported by BBC News, Del Naja told MPs it was an “embarrassment” that bands and industry organisations were making pledges without reducing their carbon footprint.

Reflecting on Coldplay’s decision to cancel a global tour for environmental concerns, Del Naja reflected, “One band’s unilateral action is not going to change the look of the whole problem at all… One band not touring doesn’t change a thing.”

He also explained that artists “have very little control” over the gigs and festivals they play in terms of how they are powered and how ticket-holders get to venues.

“Culture is important, it brings everyone together, and so the best way is to look for solutions collectively,” Del Naja told the panel.
