“We are not about providing free support or replacing statutory services,” reads the Gig Buddies website. “It’s about enabling people with learning disabilities to have people in their lives who aren’t paid to be there.”
The fundraiser is being organised by IDLES bassist and Gig Buddies patron Adam ‘Dev’ Devonshire. It involves the raffle – which also includes prizes donated by artists like Mogwai, Slowdive, Florence and the Machine and Fontaines DC – as well as a live stream event taking place this Sunday (20 June). The event is being streamed from Bristol’s Exchange and will be hosted by comedian Stewart Lee. Mclusky, Willie J Healey, Seann Walsh and TV Priest are also billed. Pick up live stream and raffle tickets here. An easy-to-read raffle prize list is also available.
“After witnessing first hand what vital and wonderful work Gig Buddies do, It has been an honour and a privilege for me to be working with them and to help raise awareness of the wonderful service that they provide,” says Devonshire in a statement. “Music and live events provide us all with so much happiness and catharsis, everyone deserves to have that joy in their lives. As we’re all hopefully getting back to a place where live events will be happening again, now is a great time to raise awareness for the charity.”
An online auction is also taking place. Among the items being auctioned off is an unreleased Four Tet album under his ⣎⡇ꉺლ༽இ•̛)ྀ◞ ༎ຶ ༽ৣৢ؞ৢ؞ؖ ꉺლ alias, alongside a pair of Mogwai test pressings. Take a look the auction listings and watch a short documentary on Gig Buddies below.
