DJ Flight, Lisa Maffia, DJ Fresh and more pay tribute to Skibadee

The pioneering jungle and drum’n’bass MC has passed away aged 54.

The news was confirmed by the late MC’s family yesterday (27 February) via his social media channels. “Hello everyone, as Alphonso’s first-born, I unfortunately come some with sad news to say that Skibadee has passed away,” reads the statement. “As a family, we ask for some privacy, but may he rest in peace.” [sic]

The London-born MC, real name Alphonso Bondzie, launched his career in 1993 and became a prominent voice in the UK rave scene. He also formed part of renowned drum’n’bass outfit SASASAS, alongside Shabba D, Harry Shotta, Stormin, DJ Phantasy and Macky Gee, who shared their tribute to Bondzie via Facebook.

Following the news shared by Skibadee’s family yesterday afternoon, peers and fans of the MC have been paying their respects online, including former So Solid Crew singer Lisa Maffia, Mary Anne Hobbs and DJ Fresh.
