Grimes and Elon Musk secretly had another baby named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk

Ahead of her new album Book 1, reportedly slated for release this spring, Grimes spoke with Vanity Fair for its latest cover story.

In the feature, published yesterday (10 March), the Miss Anthropocene artist revealed she has had a second baby with Elon Musk. As well as their son X Æ A-12, the pair have had a daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk – or “Y”, for short – via surrogate. The new addition was born in December 2021, three months after Musk announced that the pair had “semi-separated”.

“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently, and are on great terms,” said Musk at the time. “It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas, and her work is primarily in LA. She’s staying with me now, and Baby X is in the adjacent room.”

Speaking on her relationship with Musk in the new interview, Grimes said: “I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time… We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it.” The artist added that they’d like “at least three or four” children.

Her conversation with journalist Devin Gordon also sees Grimes share details on Book 1, including a collaborative track with The Weeknd and Illangelo called Sci-Fi. She has previously hinted that Eartheater is also set to appear on the upcoming release.

Elsewhere in the interview she talks about “studying astrophysics and neuroscience” explaining that: “it’s really annoying because people think I’m an airhead who went to art school.”

The artist also spoke on the impact Musk’s haters have on their lives, revealing that they’ve had to move a lot as a result. “We move and move and move,” said Grimes, “because people keep finding where we live.”
