The duo, who featured as our Issue 130 cover stars back in March, are parting ways after nine years as a band.

In a statement shared yesterday (25 August) Harmony Tividad and Avery Tucker, aka Girlpool, announced they are disbanding. “We have decided to take a break from Girlpool and go our separate ways as songwriters,” the pair wrote.

The LA duo had been set to start their North American tour on 6 September however they have reduced the amount of upcoming dates, cancelling two-thirds of the scheduled performances, and confirmed that these shows will act as a farewell tour. “This upcoming tour will be our last one,” Tividad and Tucker wrote. “It will be an ode to the past, a celebration for the future and something we will pour both of our hearts into completely.”

“We are each other’s biggest fans,” they continued, “and always encourage each other to stretch and evolve, whether that means it’s alongside one another or not.” The pair have been making music together under the Girlpool moniker since 2013, having met as teenagers at LA DIY venue The Smell.

Earlier this year the band released their latest record Forgiveness. Girlpool were scheduled to perform in the UK at London’s EartH Hackney as part of Pitchfork London but have cancelled this show.
