The publication is inspired by the musician, poet and performer’s Instagram account.
Patti Smith has announced the release of her new book. A Book of Days will feature over 365 photos, offering a snapshot into a year in Smith’s life. The publication – which is due out on 15 November via Penguin Random House – draws on the popularity of the images and poetic captions on her Instagram.
A description of the upcoming book says, “In 2018, without any plan or agenda for what might happen next, Patti Smith posted her first Instagram photo: her hand with the simple message “Hello Everybody!”. Detailing further, the blurb continues, “known for shooting with her beloved Land Camera 250, Smith started posting images from her phone including portraits of her kids, her radiator, her boots, and her Abyssinian cat, Cairo. Followers felt an immediate affinity with these miniature windows into Smith’s world.”
Alongside images posted on Smith’s social media account, A Book of Days will also feature vintage photographs from the musician’s archives and an introduction penned by Smith exploring her documentary process.
To accompany the publication, Smith is set to head out on a book tour entitled Songs and Stories which kicks off at Strand Books in New York on 14 November.
