A Pavement musical is premiering in New York next month

Pavement

Slanted! Enchanted! A Pavement Musical will be performed on 1 and 2 December at the Sheen Center.

Presented by Matador Records, the new musical theatre production about Pavement takes its name from the band’s debut album – which turned 30 this year. Slanted! Enchanted! is written and directed by Alex Ross Perry, who also directed the recent video for Harness Your Hopes, which starred actor Sophie Thatcher. Perry also curated the Pavement pop-up museum in New York which ran from 29 September to 2 October and saw Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, Speedy Ortiz and Bully perform covers of Pavement songs.

The two forthcoming dates of Slanted! Enchanted! are billed as workshop performances and the show is described as: “The majesty and mystery of Pavement, one of rock music’s most unique treasures, brought to life on the stage for an abbreviated, unforgettable stand.” The production stars Michael Esper, Zoe Lister-Jones, and Kathryn Gallagher and features arrangements by Keegan Dewitt and Dabney Morris with choreography by Angela Trimbur and assistant Tenaya Kelleher.

Slanted! Enchanted! comes to the Sheen Center, New York, for an evening performance on 1 December and a matinée on 2 December. More information on the venue’s website.

Having disbanded in 1999, Pavement reunited in 2010 for a string of shows. Following on from this, over the past year the band has reformed for a reunion tour across the world including recent peformances in the UK and Europe. The American band also performed at Primavera Sound in Barcelona this summer – a reunion set which had originally be scheduled for 2020.
