The brotherly duo have today (18 January) shared a new single, Is U, alongside the album announcement.

Overmono have announced the release of their debut album Good Lies, which arrives on 12 May via XL Recordings. The album news was accompanied by a new single entitled Is U. It’s the latest track to be lifted from the forthcoming project following the release of single Walk Thru Water – which features a sample of Greatness by St. Panther – and club hit So U KnoGood Lies sees Overmono continuing their collaboration with Rollo Jackson on the visual language of the album.

The musicians, Tom and Ed Russell, released the Cash Romantic EP in April last year, which was conceived after they had found a box of old tapes they’d recorded during their childhood. Speaking about the tapes and subsequent EP, they shared that as kids they would “try and mashup old records of our parents with whatever records we were buying at the time. Gerry Rafferty mixed with London acid techno, Dr Hook mixed with old weirdo trance tracks, and that sort of thing”. September 2022 also saw the duo – also known by their solo monikers, Tessela and Truss – collaborate with Joy Orbison for another Joy Overmono link-up, entitled Blind Date, following a summer of touring.

Reflecting on the conception of their forthcoming album in a press release, Overmono explained: “Across the last two years, we have spent so much time on the road, making music whenever we could. Moving around all the time was always really inspiring and got us experimenting a lot and having fun with how we created chords or chopped and pitched vocals. This album is really a letter of love to the journey so far and marks where we want to take things”.
