The new release from the multi-disciplinary artist lands on 28 April via Ninja Tune.

Nabihah Iqbal is set perform music from her new album DREAMER – announced today (1 March) – live for the first time as part of Between The Lines Festival 2023. The artist, curator, lecturer and broadcaster will join Lafawndah, Pan Daijing, John Bence and more at the annual event, presented at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts, in May.

Iqbal is set to play the festival on 13 May, debuting DREAMER, which arrives five years on from the release of her debut, Weighing of The Heart. The project was formed after her studio was burgled and her grandfather suffered a brain haemorrhage. After receiving the news about her grandfather, Iqbal travelled to Pakistan and her approach to music shifted. “Normally, when you’re an electronic music producer, you go into the studio, switch your computer on and start working on Ableton or Logic and then build up from that,” Iqbal said in a statement discussing the album’s creation.

“I decided not to go near all that for ages,” she continued, “and I was also forced into this approach in a way, because of the studio burglary and then being in Pakistan, away from all my equipment. Instead, I had to let the ideas develop in my head.”

The new album finds Iqbal weaving through themes of grief and personal identity. Her album launch show at the ICA forms part of the wider Between The Lines festival programme. Tickets for Between The Lines – which takes place on 13, 20 and 21 May – go on-sale at 10am (GMT) on Thursday, 9 March via the festival’s website. A pre-sale will take place at 10am (GMT) on Tuesday, 7 March for those who have signed up for pre-sale access or pre-ordered the album.
