Watch Cate Blanchett star in new Sparks video, The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte

The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte is the first single from the brother duo’s new album of the same name.

Following on from the announcement of a new album yesterday (2 March) and teaser of the Cate Blanchett cameo, Sparks have shared the full video for The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte. The music video for the title track from their forthcoming release sees the Oscar-nominated actor star alongside the veteran pop duo.

Sparks’ new album marks their 26th studio album and is scheduled for release on 26 May via Island Records. This is the pop group’s first release on the label in almost five decades – 47 years to be exact. Previous Sparks releases on the imprint include 1974’s Kimono My House and 1976 album Big Beat. “One of the most memorable periods for Sparks, the one that forever cemented our relationship with the UK and also exposed Sparks to a bigger audience around the world, was the ’70s Island Records era,” the pair said in a statement.

Speaking on the collaboration with Blanchett, the sibling duo said, “We met Cate Blanchett in Paris at the César Awards last year, little knowing that a year later, one of the great actors of our time (and a splendid person!) would graciously consent to lending her bootie-shaking skills to the first video from our new album, The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte. Dreams really do come true. We will sleep well tonight knowing that forever we can say we co-starred in a film with Cate Blanchett!”

Since the release of their 2020 album A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip, Sparks have worked on music for the film Annette – which they also wrote and which was directed by Leos Carax – as well as Edgar Wright’s documentary about them, The Sparks Brothers.
