New London club night Happy Survival launches this week

The event focuses on supporting new Black DJs and artists.

Happy Survival‘s inaugural outing is set to take place this Thursday (20 April) at The Glove That Fits in east London. Helmed by DJ, writer and producer Tope Olufemi – aka Worko – the new club night offers a platform to support Black artists and a space for them to develop their work.

“For Black artists and DJs without label support or huge co-signs, it can be difficult to carve out a space for yourself and find a way to commit to your practice,” Olufemi says of their night. “I hope that Happy Survival can somewhat contribute to the flattening of the playing field, creating a platform for Black artists to find their feet, experiment and find an audience.”

“Ultimately, we want the people coming to our nights to be ready to bank on maybe hearing something they haven’t before, from someone they haven’t before – we’d love for people to come and find out what we’re about,” they added. The debut event at The Glove That Fits will feature DJ sets spanning everything from gqom, dubstep, dancehall and broken beat to footwork, deep house and jungle. The line-up features founder Worko plus other sets from fat-lip, sharari and AUM.
