PJ Harvey has announced a new album. I Inside the Old Year Dying is slated for release on 7 July via Partisan Records and will serve as the much-loved artist’s 10th album. The musician, poet and artist’s last studio album was 2016’s The Hope Six Demolition Project.

I Inside the Old Year Dying leads with a new single, A Child’s Question, August, out yesterday (26 April). The accompanying video was directed by Steve Gullick. Check that one out in the player above.

Harvey recently teased forthcoming music, sharing some studio clips – also filmed, directed and edited by Gullick – and a 40-minute Spotify playlist of material from her catalogue to her newsletter. “I have recently been in the studio with John Parish and Flood, my closest musical partners for nearly 30 years,” she said at the time, speaking of her longtime collaborators. “This is a celebration of their masterful work with me. I am so grateful. Thank you John. Thank you Flood. I love you both.”

Meanwhile, in a statement discussing the new album, Harvey said the record is “a resting space, a solace, a comfort, a balm – which feels timely for the times we’re in. I think the album is about searching, looking – the intensity of first love, and seeking meaning.”
