“We are looking at how this may affect the 2024 Weekender and will provide an update as soon as possible” Bang Face said in a statement.
UK holiday park Pontins has closed its Southport site with immediate effect. The news was shared via the company’s website stating that the Merseyside-based holiday location was permanently closed from 3 January following an evacuation of the site on New Year’s Day due to flooding from Storm Henk. This is the third Pontins resort to be shut down in recent months, following the closure of their Camber Sands and Prestatyn locations.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Pontins Southport Holiday Park,” the statement from Pontins reads. “After assessing the future viability of the park, we have come to the difficult decision to close our doors. Unfortunately, this means that Pontins Southport Holiday Park will be closing from 3 January 2024.”
The Southport holiday resort is the home of the Bang Face Weekender, which was due to hold its 2024 edition there in May. Regarding how the closure of the location will affect this year’s festival, the renowned rave event said that it will “provide an update as soon as possible”. In a statement emailed to ticket holders and shared on Bang Face’s Facebook and website they added, “as always, our priority is the Bang Face Hard Crew and we thank you all for the amazing support.”
Bang Face had recently shared its first line-up announcement with the likes of SHERELLE, Hudson Mohawke, Helena Hauff, WaqWaq Kingdom and Deli Girls confirmed to play.
In our recent Signing Off year-end series Nikki Nair – who played the 2023 edition – described Bang Face as “one of the most beautiful festivals I’ve ever attended; a celebration of rave as a culture and language, done in a very genuine and wholesome way, with no punches pulled or expense spared to make it feel like, well, the raviest possible rave.” Read the full feature here.
