London music and arts venue IKLECTIK launch crowdfunder for next iteration following eviction

The team behind the not-for-profit space and community are raising funds for its next chapter, after the closure of the physical venue last weekend (20 January).

This was due to the planned demolition and redevelopment plans for its Waterloo premises, which could include the construction of five tower blocks. This would be the borough’s largest office block if plans proceed. The IKLECTIK team announced their eviction back in December, in a message that also saw them extending their “deepest gratitude to everyone who supported us and our community throughout these challenging months.”

The new crowdfunder, launched earlier this week, is in support of two projects from the IKLECTIK crew – ART LAB and the NOMADIK programme – as well as general running costs, artist residencies and workshops, and future soundproofing and renovations. A minimum target of £55,000 has been set, with over £11,000 raised so far.

ART LAB has been described as “a vital incubator” and “a unique and dedicated creative hub, where experimentalists across all disciplines can come together to push the boundaries of their field”. It will include residencies, R&D programmes and workshops, while also providing artists with resources and materials, as well as space in which to work. Elsewhere, NOMADIK would function as a roaming event series, staged at venues across London, the UK and more.

“On 20 January, the IKLECTIK community bid a heartbreaking farewell to our home in Old Paradise Yard, as it became yet another of London’s independent music spaces lost to property development,” a statement on the crowdfunding page reads. “As we close our doors, we know that losing our venue leaves a huge void in London’s cultural landscape.”

“Our journey forward isn’t solely about survival; it’s about resilience,” it continues elsewhere. “By securing a transformative space for artists and researchers, as well as bringing IKLECTIK events to even more people, we believe we can not only save IKLECTIK, but also play a pivotal role in securing the future of sound, art and innovation.”
