The fifth edition of the biennial experimental music festival will take place at various venues across Bristol from 25-28 April.

Bristol New Music has shared the programme for this year’s festival. Ryoji Ikeda is set to headline proceedings at the newly re-opened Beacon Hall. The Japanese composer and visual artist will present his latest A/V show, drawing on material from his 2022 album, on 26 April.

Kicking off the festival will be a performance from Bristol-based artist Sarahsson in collaboration with contemporary dance group Impermanence Dance, taking place at The Mount Without on 25 April. Following this, on the same night, there’ll be a triple bill at Lantern Hall featuring Lonnie Holley, Elaine Mitchener and Jules Reidy.

Elsewhere across the four-day event there’ll be sets from Klein, Aho Ssan, Keeley Forsyth and an installation from Bristol-based sound artist Kathy Hinde. There’ll also be a performance of a new collaborative work from Dali de Saint Paul, Maxwell Sterling, Rebecca Salvadori and Charlie Hope.

The programme announced so far also includes a world premiere from Ensemble Shui Mo, a performance from Bristol drummer Dan Johnson with free improv vocalist Maggie Nicols and a DJ set at Strange Brew from The Bug (in Dub).

Venues involved in this year’s Bristol New Music are Bristol Beacon, St George’s Bristol, Spike Island, Strange Brew, The Mount Without, The Cube and Victoria Rooms. Tickets are on sale now. Head to the festival’s website for further details.
