The third and final instalment of the second edition of the Monheim Triennale will take place from 2-6 July.
To mark the culmination of the last two years, Monheim Triennale returns with The Festival to complete its three year cycle.
The Festival 2025 will host an array of signature projects, sound installations, and exclusive performances from 16 international contemporary artists. Coming together for the first time at the workshop edition, The Prequel, in 2024, the artists had the opportunity to connect with each other, explore their surroundings, and perform in various constellations across three days. Having had the chance to develop their projects, these artists will present them at The Festival 2025.
The Festival’s main programme opens with Oren Ambarchi performing his album Hubris, followed by performances from Julia Úlehla, Brìghde Chaimbeul, Ludwig Wandinger, and an electroacoustic set from Terre Thaemlitz on Thursday 3 July. Friday’s highlights include world premieres from Anushka Chkheidze, Peni Candra Rini, Selendis S. A. Johnson and Rojin Sharafi. Saturday and Sunday will then see performances from Darius Jones, Shannon Barnett, Shahzad Ismaily, Muqata′a and many more.
This year, Artistic Director Reiner Michalke invited five people to join the curatorial board: Yuko Asanuma (music journalist, booking agent, artist manager, and event promoter from Berlin), Jessica Hallock (curator, archivist, and founder of the platform NYC Noise), Louis Rastig (music curator at the A l’Arme Festival from Berlin), Rainbow Robert (serving as the Executive Director of the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture in Vancouver), and Thomas Venker (journalist, Kaput – Magazin für Insolvenz & Pop, and cultural manager from Cologne).
As in the 2022 edition, in the lead up to The Festival, weekly long read articles will be published on the signature artists, all compiled into a limited edition book – Monheim Papers – which will be available at The Festival.
As a documentary by Finnish filmmaker Mika Kaurismäki showing the events of The Prequel 2024 will also be screened throughout the The Festival.
