Mix With The Masters is a professional development platform dedicated to the art and science of making records. Offering a range of educational live events, in-depth tutorials, workshops and retreats, it connects industry-leading experts with those looking to develop their careers in any aspect of music production – including recording, arranging, mixing and mastering. From sharpening essential technical skills to fostering lasting confidence and meaningful connections, these workshops equip attendees with tools that continue to support their growth long after the sessions end.
The platform’s ReBalance Scholarship exists to improve access to these workshops for underrepresented talent, and to counter the systemic barriers that women and gender minorities face within the industry.
“The numbers tell a stark story,” a representative from the company said. “In Spotify’s Billions Club – tracks that have surpassed one billion streams – only 2.1 percent of credited producers are women or non-binary individuals. Just 0.7 percent of credited sound engineers on tracks certified Diamond are women or non-binary. Even in the 2022 Grammy Awards’ music production categories, only 3.2 percent of credited engineers were women or non-binary.
“These figures show how much untapped talent remains overlooked due to systemic barriers. Programs like ReBalance aim to change that by giving underrepresented groups access to the same high-level learning, mentorship, and networks that can transform careers. Diversity isn’t just a social responsibility – it’s a creative necessity for the future of music.”
The scholarship offers 50 percent off the price of Mix With The Masters’ on-site seminars and masterclasses.
Spanning various disciplines, previous masters include Grammy-winning mixer Leslie Brathwaite, who has shaped hits for the likes of Pharrell Williams and Beyoncé, and Tchad Blake – a pioneer of unconventional mixing techniques and unique sonic textures, who has worked with artists including The Black Keys and Arctic Monkeys. These masters “represent some of the most innovative and influential voices in music production and engineering,” MWTM said. “Each of these guest speakers contributes to both our in-person seminars and our extensive video series, offering unparalleled access to their skills and creative processes. They generously open their workflows, philosophies, and session files, giving our community a rare chance to learn directly from the best in the business.”
Mix With The Masters’ next masterclass will be hosted by Catherine Marks – an acclaimed producer and engineer known for her work with bands like Wolf Alice and boygenius – from 16-19 September at Rue Boyer Studios in Paris.
Her sessions will explore her artist-centric approach, covering everything from pre-production strategies to tracking techniques, creative decision-making, and how she approaches mixing to maintain artistic intent. Marks will dissect real projects, share detailed insights into her equipment choices and techniques, and provide one-on-one feedback with attendees.
For this event, Mix With The Masters has partnered with the non-profit We Are Moving The Needle to offer two fully-funded scholarships to ReBalance applicants, with support from SONOS.
