The portable 8-track instrument features intuitive chord creation and sound design tools.
AlphaTheta has announced the global rollout of Chordcat, its compact 8-track groovebox designed to help creators generate chord progressions, build full arrangements, and capture ideas on the go.
Central to the device is Chord Cruiser mode, which draws from a library of more than 110,000 chord combinations to suggest compatible transitions in real time. Users can also access 18 preset progressions, covering genres from house to future bass, as well as essential major and minor templates.
Chordcat’s production features include a 16-step sequencer with 128 steps (8 bars), support for up to 8 instrument tracks, 145 onboard sounds, 16 drum kits, and three XY-pad-controlled effects (arpeggiator, delay, and ducker). The Running Direction function adds further flexibility by allowing patterns to be rearranged in multiple playback directions.
For integration with studio workflows, the unit provides MIDI OUT/THRU, MIDI IN, USB-C connectivity, and compatibility with the dedicated Chordcat Manager software, enabling pattern import/export with DAWs. A license for Ableton Live Lite is also included with registration.
With a flat, portable design measuring 247 × 111 × 33 mm and weighing 0.4 kg, Chordcat can run for around five hours on six AA batteries or via USB power, making it suited for both studio and mobile production.
The groovebox is available now. Visit AlphaTheta’s website for more information.
