Biennale Musica releases full programme and tickets for its 2025 edition

The Italian contemporary music and arts festival returns to Venice from 11-25 October.

Biennale Musica has revealed its full programme and opened ticket sales for its 69th edition. Running from 11-25 October in various venues across Venice, the festival will be directed by Italian composer and musician Caterina Barbieri

The festival’s line-up pulls together a variety of experimental boundary-pushing artists. Highlights include Sunn O))), Laurie Spiegel, William Basinski, Carl Craig, Suzanne Ciani with Actress, plus Silver Lion awardee Chuquimamani-Condori.

Other names include Mia Koden, Ecco2k, DJ Marcelle, Moritz Von Oswold, Bendik Giske, Yosuke Fujita, Kamigaku Ensemble, Catherine Christer Hennix, and STILL (Simone Trabucchi).

At the LSD Centre (La Stella Dentro Centre), a venue for deep listening sessions, live performances, and lectures, two large-scale installations will take place throughout the festival: Maxime Denuc’s Elevations and the winner of the Golden Lion Lifetime Achievement Award and Meredith Monk’s Songs of Ascension Shrine.

Taking place on 19 October, a special event titled Star Chamber – Secret Island will transport audiences from Riva degli Schiavoni via boat towards an island of the Venetian lagoon, for a site-specific performance exploring sound, space, and perception.

Under the theme The Star Within, Barbieri frames the festival as a journey into cosmic music, exploring generative music, music as a living organism, and as an autopoietic form able to self-evolve.

“The desire for great things and vastness. A vibration that permeates the cosmos and pierces through us with awe, from molecule to planetary motion, sound escapes the boundaries of the ego and opens us up to the encounter with the Other – the unknown.” Says Barbieri.

Various tickets and subscriptions for the festival are available through Biennale Musica’s website.
