The experimental music festival returns to Riga, Latvia, from 3-4 October.
Skaņu Mežs will take over Hanzas Perons, a warehouse reborn as a concert hall with over a century of history, for its 23rd edition next month.
The festival has now revealed its next wave of artists, including 2024/2025 SHAPE+ Platform artist R3YWYA, a noise-based project by Evija Ābrama.
Across the two days, Skaņu Mežs will host performances by multi-disciplinary artist and composer Laura Ortman, Glasgow-based DJ and experimental artist KAVARI, and a collaborative performance featuring London-based saxophonist John Butcher and Philadelphia-based artist and musician Bill Nace.
Other highlights include Latvian composer and sound installation artist Ernests Vilsons, who will present the world premiere of his piece all else erased, performed by double bassist Laine Luīze Freidenberga.
A commissioned piece of audio-visual work from artists Pierce Warnecke & Matthew Biederman will be shown at the festival. Titled Phytomorphic Topographies, the project explores the delicate ecosystems of Latvia’s wilderness through immersive 3D visuals and near-field sound recordings.
Visit the Skaņu Mežs website for tickets, with further acts, workshops, and installations to be announced soon.
