Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios launches free recording programme for unsigned artists

Unsigned artists from across the South West will get the chance to record at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios for free under a new Arts Council England-backed programme.

Called amplified@rw, the initiative will give four to six emerging artists who have limited access to professional recording facilities a multi-day studio session with Real World’s in-house engineers, with mixing and mastering also included.

The programme will also offer mentoring from the Real World Records team, and at the end of the project, the selected artists will have the chance to perform at a showcase at Real World Studios in front of music industry professionals.

Artists are encouraged to apply with simple, unpolished recordings, including voice notes and tracks recorded on a phone or in a bedroom studio.

“We’re searching for authenticity,” said Real World Head Engineer, Katie May. “It doesn’t need to be polished or perfect. We want to hear the spark of an idea, and that idea can be recorded on a phone or in a bedroom studio. Our goal is to find talent and provide the facilities and support to let them flourish in a way they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.”

“By providing studio time, professional mixing and mastering, mentorship, and a showcase for these artists, we hope to support the growth of the South West’s vibrant music scene,” said David Maher Roberts, General Manager of Real World. “I am curious to hear the diverse range of music from the region and proud that the Real World team can help these artists take the next steps.”

Founded by Peter Gabriel, Real World Studios is a residential recording complex in Box, Wiltshire, with a team dedicated full-time to the creative process. It forms part of a wider creative ecosystem alongside Real World Records and WOMAD.

Applications for ‘amplified@rw’ close on 9 September 2026.
