Oneohtrix Point Never, aka Daniel Lopatin, has announced two EPs and shared a demo online that was originally written for Usher.
The award-winning composer has announced that his track The Station will be the next single off his most recent album Age Of. Furthermore, there’ll be a string of releases related to the track, the first being a Sendspace link to a demo he initially pitched to Usher. It’s set to be followed by two EPs called The Station and We’ll Take It landing on 27 July via Warp, with the latter being a vinyl-only release.
The previously unreleased demo has been shared to his Twitter page this week, with the artist revealing the background story of how the rejected composition grew to become the EP The Station. Lopatin discloses, “In 2016 I was on tour with Anohni and wrote a demo then called dejavu in a hotel room in London. This song became the record The Station. The topline which was written for Usher is insinuated with the right hand melody.”
He continues, “The final version of the song has a much different topline and a loopy coda that’s kind of a metaphor for train tracks. In 2016 it was just some nice chords and melody. Get it now as I’m pretty sure this is gonna get removed”.
Furthermore, Lopatin has released a Japanese bonus track called Trance 1 ahead of the two EPs. It’s set to feature on both releases.
The music video for The Station is also expected to drop soon, which will feature animations and direction from Daylen Seu. Listen to Trance 1 above, and check out the artwork and tracklists for his two upcoming EPs below.
